Beginning SpanishYouth EnrichmentIn this introductory class, students will learn a foundation of vocabulary for carrying on simple conversations and talking about the world around them. This will include greetings, the classroom, colors, numbers, weather, days of the week, and months. Topics may change depending on interests of the students in class as well. We will practice speaking, writing, and reading Spanish during classes as well as play games, read stories, sing songs and do related crafts! Space is limited in this class, so be sure to register early! This after-school program is available at South Meadows for grades 3-5. Chess ScholarsYouth EnrichmentDevelop your child's intellect through the royal game of chess! Current research has shown a strong link between chess and academic performance in a variety of areas, including mathematics and language arts. Chess has been proven to enhance children's motivation, concentration, focus, social skills, and creativity. Each class will consist of a fun, interactive teaching period and guided practice time. Both beginner and experienced players are welcome and will learn under the guidance of an experienced Chess Scholars coach. Learn the art of digital animation. Create video games that run on physics, math and art concepts. Design Minecraft blocks, skins and mods. Experiment with HTML, Python and Java. No previous coding experience is required to learn and have fun in the Tynker playground under the instruction of a coding coach! Mad ScienceYouth EnrichmentMad Science After School (K-5th Gr.)Join Mad Science for another session of fun and interesting programs that will get stimulate your senses and make you think! Each week participants will be engaged with the Mad Scientist performing fun experiments and doing engaging activities. This after-school program is available at North Creek for K-2 grades and South Meadows for grades 3-5. Participants must be picked up promptly at the end of class. NASA Academy of Future Space Explorers (ages 5-12)Mad Science has teamed up with NASA in a quest for exploration! We’ll take a voyage of discovery into the atmosphere and beyond as we explore planets, moons, and other space phenomena in our solar system. Things will heat up as we examine the sun and other stars and discover the difficulties of space travel! Kids will get a firsthand experience of the challenges of living in space as they try to assemble a satellite while training to be an astronaut. For added fun, we’ll learn about the various technologies that make space exploration possible while bouncing lasers around the room! Kids will love to build their own Mad Science Skyblazer Rocket and participate in a real “NASA” style rocket launch. Campers will receive many cool NASA take homes! Campers should bring their own water and a nut-free snack to class. Secret Agent Lab (ages 5-12)The following camp description is TOP SECRET:Ever dream of becoming a secret agent? We'll start with the basics: from decoding messages to metal detectors and night vision, campers have the opportunity to check out spy tech equipment and take-home lots of gadgets! Step into the shoes of a detective as you uncover the science involved in evidence gathering and analysis! Figure out the science of forensics in a hands-on look at crime scenes! Become a super spy and learn clever ways of performing tasks as we take a hands-on investigation of the science that spies use! Campers should bring their own water and a nut-free snack to class. Brixology (ages 7-12)Brixology Camp sets the foundation for our next generation of makers! Children learn about different types of engineering and then team up to construct a different engineering-themed project using LEGO bricks. We’ll learn about aerospace engineering while assembling a space station. We’ll explore mechanical engineering as we build boats and vehicles. That’s not all! From carnival rides to drawing machines, mechanical animals to truss bridges, your future engineer will build upon their creativity to solve real-world design challenges, while developing their problem-solving and team-building skills.
